Stealth House: By Specht Novak Architects

Stealth House is an 1,100sf single story residence constructed by Smock Studio in 2024. The house is a small experimental project designed by Scott Specht to be his personal residence. The building takes advantage of a common property type on the back half of a standard Austin lot facing a gravel alley. A striking feature of the home is the lack of any windows on its four exterior facing walls. Instead the plan of the building is carefully crafted around two large courtyards with full height glass. The building is constructed using many standard methods of construction and simple materials to keep costs down. Through collaboration between Specht Novak & Smock Studio these materials were elevated with thoughtful detailing and construction. Only 1 year later Specht Novak’s Stealth House has been featured in a number of publications including Dwell and Architect Magazine. It also has received both local and national AIA awards for design excellence. This project is a testament to the high quality design work of Specht Novak Architects and the type of building excellence Smock Studio strives for.
